drone shoot in Lordship

I was asked to photograph a property in Lordship in Connecticut. It is a gorgeous little neighborhood right off I-95 and very close to the small airport and beaches. After getting clearance from the FAA to fly my drone in a class D airspace, I was all set to go. After the shoot I was all set to visit one of my most favorite places to go it is Riley’s by the Sea. A great little restaurant right on the water. Another great place to visit in Lordship is Surfside. Here you can get a nice little bite and enjoy the beach. When ever I am on a shoot, I love to explore what is around me, and always bring your camera.

Golf Photography

Aspetuck Valley Country Club asked me to provide drone footage of their member guest tournament. I have photographed golf events before. Usually we would photograph each foursome and then print a 5×7 print up for each golfer. This was different. They wanted drone footage of the tournament without annoying the golfers. This was pretty easy because I have the DJI Mavic Air 2 and it has a zoom feature for it’s camera.

The club wanted footage close to 10 minutes long so they could play this in the background while events transpired.

Here is the video.

The club wanted me to photograph the awards dinner after the round. Here are some images.

It’s Electric

I shot these electrical towers a few weeks ago in Chappaqua New York. They were really amazing and the weather was perfect for the flight. I am photographing for an energy company and I thought these might be a perfect fit for their annual report. Will let you know….

love the clouds and foliage in these images
I am a big fan of lines and texture
The homes gives this a human element
totally electric
I really enjoy this drone.

The drone I am using is the Mavic air 2 which is the perfect compliment to my work. It is smallenough to fit in my bag, really easy to fly and the image quality is fantastic.

On a lighter note….. here are 13 creative exercises to help you with your photography. We all hit the wall some times but these will help you get past the wall. Good luck.

Camera on the high line

One of the most enjoyable walks in New York City is the Highline. Located in the meatpacking district it extends all the way to Hudson Yards. Along the way you will see incredible architecture, fantastic gardens and wonderful scenery. It is a great place to people watch too. We started on 23rd street and ended at The Vessel, which opened last year. One of the wildest things we saw is The Edge, the observatory platform. Liz, my wife was at The Edge a few weeks ago with her sister visiting from California and said it is a must see!

Family Portrait

I know a lot of people are into the candid and lifestyle approach to family photography but, there is nothing wrong with a little traditional and posed photography. I like to take the world as I find it is the way to go. If you have a lot of little ones, then a traditional image can be hard to grab. This is where experience and perseverance take over. As much as I like an image of all the grandkids piling on each other in the middle of the lawn, sometimes you have to just work with what you got and come up with good results.

First select a very nice background
If you can get a secondary background that is a bonus
A third setting? wow!

I like to give the client many options. As many as I can push them to get. It really depends on the kids and if I can get them to do this for 20 minutes.

Then we break the families down to smaller families
Main flash for fill and that is it
I shoot a lot of horizontal, but I love the verticals too.
There is nothing wrong with everyone looking at the camera
I did not get the picture of everyone piling on the little guy, but sometimes, you don’t need that picture.

I send these images to the families in hope that they will order something for their walls. I have a great lab that produces fine art printing with float frames and they are so beautiful. Call me for a photoshoot. 203-856-5075.
